5 Ways to own an office without actually paying for it

Don’t want to pay to lease or rent an office? And buying one is definitely out of the question? Here are 5 things you can do to give the appearance of a professional office without actually paying for the physical space.

1. Designate a number specifically for business calls. Your cell phone should be a backup number for clients and customers. You could even go through an answering service to have your calls answered live with your company name and then forwarded to your cell or email.holding-cell-phone

 2. Get a professional mailing address (a PO box doesn’t count). FedEx and UPS won’t deliver to a Post office box, plus you want to make it seem like you have the resources of an office, not a seat at the coffee shop across from the Post Office.

3. Use videoconferencing for those virtual meetings. Skype and FaceTime are ok for personal calls, but you want a professional setting for the important stuff. Lots of offices have videoconferencing capabilities in their boardrooms for others to use.

5. Become a member of a virtual office or co-working space. Most virtual office packages will include 1-4 plus other amenities like copies, fax and coffee (which are cheaper than Starbucks and Kinkos). Imagine having a one-stop office to get all of the things necessary to give your clients the appearance of your own professionally furnished office without ever having to move your entire home office to a different location?
